During my recent retreat in North Yorkshire, I had the chance to indulge in hobbies I usually overlook at home. Specifically, I spent a couple of days exploring drone photography. Although I've owned a drone for some time, I rarely use it for photography at home. The experience while using it on my break has taught me that drone photography presents unique differences and challenges compared to traditional hand-held camera photography.

Differences
Perspective: Drones enable photographers to capture stunning aerial footage and images that are impossible to get with hand-held cameras, giving them unique and breathtaking viewpoints. This is particularly useful while on a trip or vacation.

Reach: Drones help capture wider perspective images from a higher altitude, especially for landscape photography or capturing images of significant events (from a safe distance). Getting that view would be impossible on foot.

Cost: Drones have become more affordable in recent years but are still quite expensive.
Challenges
Regulations: Depending on the country or region, drone photography is subject to various restrictions. Researching the rules in your area before flying a drone for photography is essential. I had to complete several steps to legally fly my drone and take photos. This included registering my drone, obtaining a permit as a pilot, and passing an online exam. Additionally, I have to pay an annual fee to maintain my permit.
Weather: Weather conditions, like wind and rain, can impact drone flights and make it challenging to safely obtain desired shots.
Safety: Regarding drone photography, it's essential to recognise the potential hazards and take precautions to ensure safety. If the risks cannot be minimised, it's better to land the drone and refrain from flying it.
Conclusion
Exploring the world through the lens of a drone is both thrilling and challenging. It requires mastering flying skills before focusing on photography skills. My experience is that the unique and breathtaking images and videos that can be captured are well worth the effort. As a beginner, I'm taking things slow and steady. Still, I'm excited about the creative possibilities and eager to learn more.
Various online and library resources can aid in your understanding of drone photography.

Hi Keith.
These shots are absolutely stunning. If this is what you're managing to create whilst still classing yourself as a beginner, I can't wait to see what you produce in future! It looks like the new business is really getting going too. Where abouts in North Yorkshire were these shots taken?
